Series i will not finish

Twilight by Stephene Meyer

I read the first book and yes I’ll be frank -I went head over heels. Though I found flaws in Bella’s character I loved the protective nature of Edward(stalking too) and how he tried to refrain himself from her for her safety . All these made me go “crazy” over him. Then I read the second book and um … it all turned dull. If you have been following my blog then you would probably have heard me say how much I detest love triangles. That’s what happened Bella started to have feelings for Jacob and Edward at the same time. It seemed unfair .

that sucks

I got too attached to Edward-Bella romance that I couldn’t wish myself see the other side. And hence just googled up the ending (Scold me … scratch that please don’t :P)

Vampire diaries by L.J.Smith

The beginning few books where “amazing”. Would go on reading all through the night. Damon and Stefan Salvatore – love love <3. My friend and I would have cat fights over the brothers. But when more and more books came out it became clichéd and cheesy . Seemed like the story line was dragged just to get a new book on the stands. I don’t remember when I literally stopped just didn’t find myself to read another one of it.

House of night by P.C. and Kristin Cast

This is the one series that I didn’t get submerged right from the first book. I had my friends talking much about this . So I tried to push on but alas didn’t get past chosen

Ram Chandra by Amish

I loved the shiva trilogy so much. Coming from the same author may be I had my expectations too high. The story line was very draggy and narrative was dull and boring. The characters seemed to miss something I am not sure what. Just feel the writing could have been a little more engaging . It just happened that I dozed off reading this book which rarely happens in my case

Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordon

Here is the shocker . You all know am a big fan of Rick Riordon’s work .Then you could question me why this particular best selling series is in here. This is a Percy Jackson spin off and I am  huge Percy Jackson fan and when I say huge its HUGE. In this series Percy is shown as a second lead and not the first hero to go around saving the world. I can’t read him as being the second in line or even share places .

A big no-no to me .  Now that’s why hero’s of Olympus is in this list. I know am breaking thousands of hearts for this. Sorry

Please comment below if you think i should pick up any of the above books and also feel free to mention the books you wont finish 🙂

Opal Lux#3

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger… and they know it.

I am struggling to write this review majorly because I have so many emotions whirling around I don’t know where to start. Before I continue with my review let’s just take a second to appreciate the cover ( the guy especially 😛 )

The book starts right where Onyx left. For the first few pages it was slow but really loved the way love bloomed between Daemon and Katy. His protective nature had not budged but he learnt to give her the space. Points for that Daemon. The pain Dawson goes through is understandable and Daemon is doing everything under his alien power to keep him sane. But the credits go to Katy for coming up with ideas that shall actually work. From 40 page or so plot caught on like wildfire.

I had FOUR BIG SHOCKERS in this book .shock

  1. BLAKE. Seriously? Him again? I thought he was a good riddance but then he turns up to school as if nothing had happened. Daemon and I did not take this likely. “Daemon curtailed from stabbing and gave the chance to escape. To have a life ! But you BLAKE screw not just yourself but my mind too by making a re-entry. I was better off without your presence in the book”, were my exact thoughts.
  2. WILL. The mutation didn’t hold as expected and therefore wants his revenge by taking on Katy.
  3. CARISSA. I never expected this to happen and it still remains a mystery to me.
  4. The Ending. I was preparing for something similar to second book. Taking on DOD was not a good idea but have to try for Dawson. For Beth. I agree without a casualty there wouldn’t be any teeth clinging moment but …but… does it have to be Katy? Why can’t it be Blake. He moreover deceived them again. At that second I didn’t have to be a Luxen to shoot my rage at him.

Reading this book tapped on my every emotion

  1. I smiled
  2. I got angry
  3. I cried
  4. I giggled
  5. I shouted
  6. I felt happy
  7. I felt sad
  8. I felt pity
  9. I fell for Daemon again
  10. I freaking loved!

But i did find some loop holes in the story line and unanswered questions. If Dawson had been captured and tortured with Onyx for a year why hasn’t he developed any tolerance ? How did the underworld mafia kid Luc have the power to tamper the DOD’s security ? Did Blake have any feelings for Katy or he just faked it all the while? Who mutated Carissa and why ? ugh.. so many .

I have to admit this book had a huge impact on me and I didn’t want to continue for 3 days not because the story is bad but because it is too good for me to take in.

Obsidian- The LUX #1

OBSIDIANStarting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Hello everyone! I am super hyper to type this review ! Reason ? I went head over heels for Daemon, the plot got me go twisted up there and I actually finished the second book before I typed this because it was freakishly good that I never wanted it to stop . Its been in a while that I got so attached . Trust me – this is one hell of a read .

And Its official I am having a new book boyfriend !!

Though many feel this book is similar to twilight I believe otherwise . More of story, more of depth in the characters, more of twists , more of everything ! It is totally a new take on aliens. The story revolves around Luxen – The aliens who now take shelter on earth as their planet lux got destroyed . The first few pages are a bang ! We have our Katty shifted to new town and becomes the neighbor to the Blacks. And whoa do I have to tell her first encounter with Daemon? They get on the wrong side of each other right away but at the same time the need to be together is hunting them down. Form time and again Daemon happens to be the dark knight (or in this case should I say “light” knight) who saves the damsel in distress. And there are the Arums – the bad aliens who kill for power . The revelation of who Daemon really is comes with a price to Katty and whether or not they survive the dangers at bay and what consequence it brings forms the rest . I got to tell the climax was like watching a movie. I could visualize myself in there ,with my heart pounding on what would happen next. Every time i settled on ” ok i got this , this is gonna happen next .” It went puff  the plot laughed at me like “got ya! “

Katty – Firstly she is a book blogger (yay ! I could totally relate myself to her ) Secondly she is one inquisitive, bold ,head strong girl . Who would go running down the aisle right into the gates of death? But she did to save the friends she loved. She so earned my respects.

Daemon Black is all a girl could ask for. A protective brother,a super hot alien  and of course a douche bag which is kind of drawing in a manner I never expected ! And the irresistible pokes he made to sway Katty . Personally if someone did so to me I would get pissed but it was DAEMON. Every move he made , every word he uttered made me go tingly. I am so damn crushing over him. All the bad boy ,top notch sexy , alien super powers are way to overboard for my little heart to take in (*taking a min off to Cool myself down*).

Dee Black is a bubbly, always happy ,take it easy kind of girl. Her attempts to befriend Katty, her little tricks to make Daemon earn “bonus points” were so admirable. If Dee hadn’t been there then I think this book would have lost its charm

Do I have to put it in so many words ? On a scale of 1-5 definitely a 6 !

Thanks for reading down till the end .

Until next time ,

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl.

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

After all the hype and buzz ,I finally got to read Cinder- the first in Lunar Chronicles trilogy.  I was not sure of what  to expect for all I knew was that it is a massive retelling of the classic (and my favourite) fairy tale –“The Cinderella”. Though released back in 2012 am happy that I waited this long to get my hands on it . Reason? I was able to read the entire series at a stretch  with no waiting … Hooray me !

Set in futuristic china ,Cinder is a dystopian/sci-fi story  about a cyborg named Cinder . She makes her living (and her evil stepmother’s )as a mechanic ,accompanied by android Iko –her only friend apart from her little step sister Peony. Her dull life changes when prince Kai visits her store . Since then several truths are revealed , the mysteries of Lunar lingering makes sense and before she could realize what was happening she is pulled into the plot. As an accident she learns about Queen Levana ‘s malign plan . Does she succeed in bringing the lunar Queen’s treacherous plans to light or does she get herself knocked up forms the rest of the story.

 The plot

The plot doesn’t have much of twists for I could guess all the glimpses . but even so it is captivating .There were times when I felt a character or a scene was out of the league but when I kept nearing the end of the book it all came together ! The last chapter had me in shock .I was expecting the big reveal which did come after all ,but accompanied by a totally  unexpected twist . And my mind went like puff ! This book sure ends in a cliff hanger making me beg for more .

Cinder IS a normal girl with love for tools. I loved the fact that she is shown to have certain faults . I like it when the main character is not all goody goody and perfect because in real life it isn’t . The transformation into cyborg left her past in the shadow.

Speaking about Prince Kai , he is shown to be wise beyond his age but bewildered new emperor to when the King dies of the plague . and of course the heartthrob of the nation. Assisted by the royal adviser Kai he takes decision that ensures safety of his people . Devastated to find the cure he is left with no choice but to accept the unacceptable .From time and again his love for his country is to a T. He would go any heights to protect his promise.

I wished Cinder and Kai to be together right from the beginning . Awaiting scenes that sparkle up.But I was a bit let down . Personally I did like kai but was not drawn to him . May be that was for a good reason because …( I shall tell you in my Scarlet book review) *wink*

Queen Levana is a bi**h. All the while she made me go like ggrrrr . I I had been a wolf I would have torn her life apart. She get points for being the evil queen  though.

Adri and Pearl,Stepmother and stepsister of Cinder . I have extreme grudge over them for treating cinder the way they did . They are the one who should have been caught by the plague and not the innocent .

This book promises much and is a strong start to a trilogy . though a retelling it is more of a new version rather than sticking to the old . it matches only in few aspects as in the evil stepmother and the ball and the final staircase where Cinderella loses her shoe or in this case parts of her body . I would rate it a 4 just because there was too much foreshadowing .

Thanks for reading down till hear . Love your support !
